The course of the universe is the result of our participation.

I Am Charles.

  • I’m your mindful wellness guide, based in Washington DC since 2018. I have been teaching yoga since 2012. As a lifelong athlete who has experienced anxiety, PTSD, and addiction, I have been on a journey of movement, self study, and healing for over ten years, developing skills to apply to conditions in life.

  • My teaching is inspired by vinyasa, hatha, yin, cognitive science, and yoga history. I have also completed 175+ hours of continuing education in meditation, yoga philosophy, respiratory science, anatomy, yoga for children, stress and anxiety management, and peer mediation. I have a passion for creating and facilitating work that prioritizes the well being of Black and Brown people, especially those who identify as queer, trans, nonbinary, and their allies.

  • I believe we put the skills of yoga to action in life. So practicing these skills is an opportunity to create awareness, to act according to choice and responsibility, and to be kind to self and others. My intention is to facilitate your exploration of awareness, align you with your values, and encourage you to take intentional action.

  • I use formats such as visualization, breathwork, and functional yoga mobility to address the underlying influences that contribute to varied states of being. My goal is for you to connect to your preconditioned self, moving from mechanical behavior patterns to a more realized way of living. I spend my time in nature, riding my bike, writing, cooking, and serving my community. Ask me about what music I’m listening to, what I’m having for lunch, what I’m reading, or what made me laugh lately.

These are my Values:

Important principles of thought and behavior.

  • /ˈkərij/

The ability to do something that causes fear, pain, or grief. Strength in the face of adversity.

  • /ˌvəln(ə)rəˈbilədē/

Exposing physical, mental, and emotional insecurities. The quality or state of being being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally.

  • /kəmˈpaSH(ə)n/

Support in the form of shared feelings or opinions. Understanding between people; common feeling. Sympathetic concern for the actions and feelings of others.

  • /simˈplisədē/

The quality or condition of being plain, basic, or uncomplicated in form and design; without much decoration or ornamentation; natural and easy to understand.

  • /ˈpāSH(ə)ns/

The capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

This is My Practice.

  • Yoga Foundations

Basic yoga forms inspired by Vinyasa, Hatha, and Yin yoga incorporated with functional mobility to align, strengthen, and promote flexibility in the body. There is an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement.

  • Meditation

The purpose of meditation is to focus the mind, align with the heart, and invigorate the body. Exploration of the Self is conducted using concentration, visualization, affirmation, and breath and body awareness.

  • Breathing

The breath is a powerful tool to enhance the quality of life. Explore the underlying influences to varied states of being and situations in life, and practice with the tool of breathing using respiratory science to help address these states.

My Community Partners & Affirmations:

  • Devin Smith

I can't recommend Charles Snarles enough as a yoga teacher! He's truly one of the best I've ever worked with. His patience, kindness, and the perfect pace of his classes create an incredible experience. If you have the opportunity to take one of his classes, don't miss it! You won't be disappointed!

  • Deondre Rice

His communication style encourages me to tap into my higher self, pushing through to meet the challenges, but also there’s space to rest right where you are, accepting where you are. He’ll gently re-position you or help deepen your stretch if need be (verbally or physically), unlocking different parts of the mind/body. If you have a question about something , he will most likely have an answer or close enough information about physicality and how the body is connected, where the stretch should be felt etc. If you’re looking to sweat and work on your strength (MindBodySpirit) , definitely allow Charles to guide you !

  • Elliot Simpson

I've had the pleasure of having private yoga sessions with Charles. Charles comes with a very open and welcoming energy and immediately makes one feel safe and supported. I appreciate that he typically asks what kind of session I am looking for before we begin. There have been times that I didn't exactly feel up for the session but went through with it anyway and I was ALWAYS glad that I did -- not to mention he plays great music! Would easily recommend.

  • Avery Spottswood

Charles provides a safe environment to explore the world of yoga. He is incredibly knowledgeable and offers potent, effective, yet approachable classes. The atmosphere he creates is welcoming and invites each student to foster a deeper connection to their own practices. Using his deep understanding of the practice, I have been supported and challenged and guided.

  • Dawn Prather

Charles is absolutely amazing! His knowledge of his craft seems endless and his passion to continue learning and growing is inspiring. He is also incredibly warm and welcoming to all; he has the best energy and can illuminate any room. My yoga skills are…rudimentary at best as I’m new to this, but I always feel extremely comfortable in Charles’ classes. He meets me where I am and encourages me to improve, while also managing to do the same for others in the class whose skills are more advanced. I recommend Charles very highly. He is a true professional.

  • Ava Salehi

Charles has a passion for teaching and learning that comes through clearly whether he’s teaching a yoga class, facilitating a training, mentoring a trainee, or collaborating with a group to create a meaningful shared experience for others. He embodies his values and carries universal truths into any room he enters. Charles actively gives and receives feedback for everyone’s betterment. When I leave any interaction with Charles, I feel seen, understood, and enlightened. Not to mention, his joy and laughter is wonderfully contagious. I highly recommend working with and/or learning from Charles!
